Singing Carols at Amber Court

Hi it’s Keira from 3m and today, 22nd December 2017, Imogen and I went to sing at Amber Court (a nursing home) along with some of Mrs Jemson’s choir pupils.

We sang five songs including Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer/Jingle Bells, Away in a Manger, Shine Away, I wish it could be Christmas Every Day and Love Shone Down.

 We enjoyed performing.
It was a very nice day. When we arrived back at school we all thanked Mrs Jemson.

Year 3 and 4 Carol Concert

Hi, I’m Imogen. I’m in 3M.

Today we did a carol concert.
It took lots of rehearsals and there were 180 children there.

The songs we sang were Shine Away, Away in a Manger, Love Shone Down, I wish it could be Christmas Every Day, Somewhere only we know and O Little Town of Bethlehem. We also sang a Christmas song in Spanish called Mi Burrito Sabanero.

My favourite song was Shine Away.
It was so good, flabbergasting and amazing.
I hope every parent enjoyed it because I know every child did.

Christmas Party

Hi, it’s Lucie.
 Yesterday was our Christmas party.
We played pass the parcel, we played corners and we danced like crazy.
 Everybody had a good time.
Naughty Squeak tried to steal some of the sweets.

Investigating the effect of sugar on teeth

This half term we have been looking at health and nutrition in science.

We carried out an experiment to look at the effect of sugar on teeth.

We could not use actual teeth so we used eggs as their shells have a similar make up to teeth, being made of calcium.

6 boiled eggs were placed in jars and a different drink was added to each jar. The drinks we tested were milk, water, coke, diet coke, apple juice and blackcurrant cordial.

Everyone made predictions about what we would see after a week in the drinks and which drink contained the most sugar.

The results of the experiment surprised many children as the apple juice had the greatest effect and so the most sugar.

Santa Dash 2017

Can you spot Freddie and Ben (or even Miss McGuire) in this crowd of Santas?

The boys took part with their families and 2000 other Santas to run 2 miles down Blackpool promenade on a cold Sunday morning.

It was all to raise money for Brian House Children's Hospice and luckily you got given a lovely medal, along with a biscuit and hot chocolate, at the end.

Well done boys!

Shape Day

We had a ‘Shape Day’ in school where every class carried out maths activities linked to shape.

Year 3 looked at 3D shapes in different orientations and challenged ourselves to make 2D shapes using Tangrams.

The whole class loved using the ipads to battle with each other on the Kahoot quizzes.

Elf Run

1P organised an Elf Run to raise money for Brian House Children’s Hospice.

We could take part wearing Christmas head wear.
There were ‘Elf Sprints’.
A ‘Christmas Cracker Relay’ was lots of fun. 3M are such good runners Miss McGuire had to make the course longer.
Hopefully no one will use their ‘Stocking Throw’ skills on Christmas Day.
Everyone had a lovely afternoon and 1P were excellent hosts and helpers.

Watching Cinderella

Some pupils went to see Cinderella at the Grand Theatre.

This was the first show we have seen this year and everyone had a brilliant time singing, dancing and laughing all night.

Some members of our school were even chosen to go up on stage.
They were so brave to dance in front of everyone.

What was your favourite part?

Dance Festival at the Winter Gardens

Some of our class took part in the Schools Dance Festival at the Winter Gardens in November.

The girls gave up lots of their lunch times to rehearse and then performed for an audience of around 3000.

Well done girls!

Lots of 3M have been working really hard to improve their handwriting.   Look at the comparisson between the beginning of the year and how these girls write now.
A huge improvement Ruby.
Great work Ilissa.

Separating Soil

In science we have learned that soil is made up of lots of different parts. We predicted what might be in soil from the school field and then carried out an experiment to separate the different parts.

World War Day

During World War day we dressed up in clothes from the time and took part in lots of activities.
We found learning about World War 2 and the Blitz very interesting and got to pretend we were in an air raid.

Acting out performance poetry based on wartime poems was fun.

Questioning a Historian

Adrian Worrell is a historian. He talked to each year 3 class about the Stone Age and then we had the chance to ask him lots of questions.

Stone Age Day

Historian Adrian Worrell visited us to talk about the Stone Age and show us lots of artefacts.

Cave Paintings

We used pastels, charcoal and wax crayons to recreate cave paintings. We had to think about the types of animals and scenes which were in cave paintings as well as which colours to use.

Learning about the shapes which make up 3D shapes

Diwali Afternoon

We have been looking at different ways people celebrate Diwali. On Friday afternoon we tried out some different activities. We made lanterns.
We created Rangoli patterns.
We sampled Diwali sweets.
Some people chose to try on outfits.
We also tried creating our own Henna designs.

Learning about the types of soil

What a messy afternoon!   We learnt about four different types of soil and then we tested some samples. We had to decide whether they were clay soil, sandy, loam or silt.
